Antigua is known as the centre of Fuerteventura handicrafts, where we can find traditional activities, such as embroidery, basketwork, ceramics, pottery, wood carving etc.
The Insular Handicrafts Fair ( Feria Insular de Artesania) is one of the most important events in the area. This fair takes place during the first fortnight of May, where many artisans from all over the archipelago come to show the variety of their products.
Many of this town's tranditions are still preserved, such as peculiar dances and a wide repertoire of traditional folklore.
Most of the festivals take place in summer, when each village honours the patron saint. Some of the most famous festivals are the Carnival in February and the Festivity of Our Lady of Antigua on September 8th.
Among the popular traditions local sports are very important, such as Canary Wrestling, still in practice and characterised by its ability and nobility.
