The Island of Lobos walk,Isla de Lobos,Fuerteventura

First you need to get to the Island, ferries from Corralejo take around 15 minutes, be sure to check the return ferry times, to make sure you don't miss the last one.
On the same pier where you disembark you can see various information boards and also the National Park Visitor Information Centre which we recommend you to visit before beginning your walk. From this point you will begin your walk in the direction of the La Concha beach and the Martino Lighthouse. The footpaths are in good condition and very well signed so in a few minutes you will arrive at La Concha. Here you could stop a while to take a look at this lovely beach and the recently restored saltpans. Return to the path and, in half an hour, you will come across a detour to the left which leads to the summit of La Caldera de Lobos mountain. (If you take this path, you need to add another hour to your journey time). From this point to the lighthouse will take another half an hour and there you will take the path which traverses the east side of the island in the direction of Las Lagunitas-El Puertito. It will take you another forty minutes to get back to the starting point for this walk – the pier.

The Island of Lobos walk is located in Isla de Lobos, Fuerteventura.

Although this island is located 2km from the north east coast of Fuerteventura, it actually belongs to the municipality of La Oliva.

Of course, Lobos means Wolves and therefore the name translates as Island of the Wolves. There are, and never have been wolves here; the island was named due to the myriad of sea wolves that once lived here, and in actual fact they were monk seals. These animals have now been hunted to the point of extinction. The mediterranean monk seal is one of the most critically endangered species. Although the occasional report of  a sighting arises, it is far more likely that the monk seal no longer exists on los Lobos.

Lobos is is a popular destination for day trips, has a nice beach, and snorkelling ia very good.
