Black Sea Urchin,Fuerteventura Nature
Black Sea Urchin (Arbacia lixula) can be seen around the coast of Fuerteventura in rock pools and in shallow waters on rocky shores at depths down to 30 metres.
Characterized by its deep black color and its hemispherical shape they reach a maximum diameter of 10 centimetres and their spines are up to 3 centimetres in length.
Sea urchins should not be handled, and you should avoid standing on them when in the water. Their stings can be extremely painful and the spines that a sting can leave behind can be difficult to remove from the skin.
