Swordfish or Pez espada,Fuerteventura Nature
Swordfish (Xiphias gladius) are known locally in Fuerteventura as Pez espada are found in Fuerteventura waters and are sought after by sport fisherman worldwide.
Swordfish are blackish-brown in colour fading to light-brown below and have a long flat, sword-like bill
They commonly reach 3 metres in length and can reach up to 4.55 metres in length and 650 kilos in weight and can typically be found from near the surface to a depth of 550 metres.
The swordfish is undoubtedly among the fastest fish and relies on its great speed and agility to slash and injure its prey using its sword feeding mainly on other fish but also on crustaceans and squids.
