Yellow Barracuda or Bicuda,Fuerteventura Nature
HotYellow Barracuda (Sphyraena Viridensis) also known as Yellowmouth Barracuda known locally in Fuerteventura as Bicuda are found around the coastal waters of Fuerteventura.
Barracuda are snake-like in appearance, with prominent, sharp-edged, fang-like teeth, much like piranhas, all of different sizes, set in sockets of their large jaws, with large, pointed heads.
They often feed on small fish around the rocky areas, cliff edges and in the harbours. They are much sought after by game and commercial fishermen. Although they can grow up to a metre long they have not been known to attack humans. Barracuda can often be seen on the fish counter in the supermarkets on Fuerteventura.
Barracudacan be caught from the shore and harbour walls using artificial lures and can provide great sport with dawn and dusk being the most productive times.
