Isla de los Lobos, Fuerteventura

This island, situated 2 kilometers off the northeast coast of Fuerteventura, is part of the La Oliva municipality.
The name "Lobos" translates to "Island of the Wolves." However, there have never been any actual wolves on the island; it was named after the numerous sea wolves that once inhabited the area, which were actually monk seals. Unfortunately, these creatures have been hunted to near extinction. The Mediterranean monk seal is now considered one of the most critically endangered species. While there are occasional reports of sightings, it is highly unlikely that monk seals still exist around Los Lobos.
Lobos is a favored spot for day trips, featuring a lovely beach and excellent snorkeling opportunities.
