Incredible as it may seem, our seemingly desert island holds many botanical treasures. We are not talking about cultivation and gardening plants, introduced from all over the world, but about native ones, those that were always here. Today, due to human activity for centuries, and more recently due to climate change, they are in many cases close to extinction. Of the approximately 750 species of plants registered for Fuerteventura, half are native to the island. Of these, 15 are exclusive to it and are found nowhere else in the world. Except for just one, all of them are in danger of extinction.

The need for firewood and to create cultivated fields, as well as the high cattle herd that the island had for centuries, have caused enormous destruction of the vegetation. Of the forests of which the chronicles of the conquest of Fuerteventura speak, in the 15th century, there are hardly a few remains. In the native plant reserve we have recreated the most important vegetation types on 6 hectares, with more than 80 unique species. The reserve plays an important role in the conservation of plants as rare as Majorero colino, of which there are only a few hundred, the pear tree of the eastern Canary Islands, of which less than 20 specimens are known in nature, or the Canary marble, of which there is only one wild individual in Fuerteventura, who already has 5 descendants in the reserve. In addition, there are large freshwater ponds in the reserve surrounded by riverside vegetation to protect birds.

Throughout the tour of the educational path, our botanical expert will tell you all about the exciting work we carry out in the reserve and future plans in collaboration with international conservation organizations and other botanical gardens.

At Oasis Wildlife Fuerteventura you will find over 3000 animals of 250 different species in an environment characterised by the thousands of tropical plants, succulents, cactus and ornamental plants surrounding the enclosure.

The park has the only Botanical Garden in Fuerteventura, a large space which is predominantly grown indigenous and tropical flora. Among the many installations and enclosures, it highlights the Flamingo Lake, the area dedicated to the animals of the African Savannah, the corridor of Madagascar where Lemurs live in semi freedom or the giraffe enclosure where you can feed them or caress them.

There are also shows with parrots, reptiles, sea lions and birds of prey. To explore this wonderful space you have the option of renting an electric car, looking at it from a Camel Safari or pause any of the three restaurants you'll find in the way of nature trails.

A coach will pick you up at your hotel or the pickup location closest to your hotel and take you to Oasis Wildlife Fuerteventura where you will have a truly amazing day, when finished a coach will take you back to your hotel or the pick-up point closest to your hotel.
