Common Two-Banded Sea Bream or Seifia,Fuerteventura Nature
The Common Two-Banded Sea Bream (Diplodus vulgaris) known locally in Fuerteventura as Seifia they are very common around Fuerteventura. They inhabit the surf zone, and can often be seen when snorkeling in shallow water, close to the shore and are also found in depths fown t metres.
They can reach a length of around 45 centimetres, their body is generally grey-silver, with two vertical black bands, one close to the gills and one in the rear of the body. They have a less pronounced black band near the eyes and golden lines along the body, typically on the back.
They can be caught from beaches or rocks using pieces of prawn, fish or squid for bait, the larger ones are great fun to catch on light tackle freelining a whole prawn.
