Black Seabream or Chopa,Fuerteventura Nature

Black seabream (Spondyliosoma cantharus) known in Fuerteventura at Chopa are very common around Fuerteventura, large schools can often be seen when snorkelling in shallow water, close to the shore. They also inhabit deeper water down to depths of 300 metres.
They are silvery with blue and pink tinges and broken longitudinal gold lines and can reach up to 60 cm in length.

They can be caught from beaches or rocks using pieces of prawn or squid for bait.
Black Seabream are very good to eat, and can often be found at the fish counter in the local supermarkets in Fuerteventura.
