The Atlantic bonito (Sarda sarda) is a large mackerel-like fish and is common in shallow waters off the coast of Fuerteventura.
Atlantic bonito are strong swimmers, grow up to 75 centimetres (30 in) and weigh 5–6 kilograms (11–13 lb) and put up a great fight when caught on light tackle.
They are often caught when trolling for big game species around the shores of fuerteventura but can also be caught when fishing from rocks or harbour walls using lures.
