Seventh day of lockdown
(Updated: March 26, 2020)
On the seventh day of the Fuerteventura lockdown the rules seem to be fully in effect. The authorities have been clamping down on the enforcement with road blocks and police checks in place ensuring cars only have a driver and a legitimate reason to be out of their accommodation.
Taxis are still available but we have reports that only one person is allowed in a taxi so if you are a couple wishing travel by taxi to the airport you need to take two taxis.
Stop checks are also being carried out on the streets ensuring people are out alone and have a legitimate reason to be out of their accommodation.
We understand that hotels are closing from the 26th of March at the latest and many are closed already.
We have no information regarding those holiday renting private villas and apartments and the best thing is to contact the person you booked with and the airline if separate. Flights seem to be few and far between and very expensive.
Grocery shops seem to have plenty of stock probably due to the missing thousands of holidaymakers. Restrictions are in place regarding the number of people at a time allowed in shops, some provide gloves at the entrance which you have to wear and the floors are marked showing where you should stand.
Most businesses will be hit extremely hard, especially the bars, cafes and restaurants and we hope they will bounce back once we see an end to the crisis.
The message from the authorities is clear, to reduce the spread of the virus you need to isolate yourself from others and stay in your accommodation as much as possible.
